'Woeful attempt to distract': Ex-MSNBC host's spat with Piers Morgan moves to social media
What began as an on-air spat between former MSNBC host Mehdi Hasan and conservative former CNN host Piers Morgan has quickly spilled over into a full-blown social media brawl.
The tension between the two British-born broadcasters began Thursday on Morgan’s show “Piers Morgan Uncensored” as the two engaged in a heated debate about issues surrounding the UK child abuse controversy, race and President-elect Donald Trump’s lawsuits against media organizations like CBS and ABC News.
The testy interview sparked Hasan to take to X later that night to restate his position – which may have been lost in the hot-tempered back-and-forth.
And Morgan clapped back hours later.
“Me vs Piers Morgan. I brought uncomfortable receipts on white grooming gangs,” Hasan said Thursday in his post. Hasan included a soundbite from his interview, and added a quote for his followers.

“You've just made my point for me,” Hasan said in the interview and on X. “These are the scandals we're not talking about. Why? Why are we defining child sex crimes by race unless you're a racist? I care about the victims of all crimes.”
His taunting appeared to trigger Morgan.
“Your woeful attempt to distract attention/blame for this appalling rape gang scandal from the almost exclusively British-Pakistani rapists involved is very telling,” Morgan wrote in a reply to Hasan’s post.
Hasan hosted The Mehdi Hasan Show on MSNBC from 2021 until its cancellation in November 2023, according to media reports.
Morgan, meanwhile, left CNN in 2014 after his primetime show was canceled due to falling ratings.
