Pamela Anderson Says She Found the Best Way To Get ‘Payback’ for Hulu’s 'Pam & Tommy'
Pamela Anderson’s comeback might be one of Hollywood’s most glorious stories. Just three years ago she was pushing back against her story being told without her input on Hulu’s Pam & Tommy. Now, she’s campaigning for an Oscar nomination in her celebrated return to film in The Last Showgirl.
The 2022 series starring Sebastian Stan and Lily James gave their interpretation of her well-publicized marriage to Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee. “I didn’t have any involvement. No one called me, which was so strange, and that was hurtful,” she said. “I think ethically it’s illegal,” Anderson shared on SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live, via People. She understood her story was “fair game,” but it was still painful.
“I remember people telling me that a long time ago, that you are basically public property, and you have no right to privacy. I remember that,” she continued. In her 2023 Netflix documentary, Pamela: a love story, she explained how the release of the Hulu show made her feel. “It really gives me nightmares,” she said in her documentary. “I didn’t sleep last night at all. I have no desire to watch it, I’m not going to watch it. Never watched the tape, I’m not going to watch this.”
The 1995 release of her sex tape with Lee was painful for her. “Nobody really knows what we were going through at that time. They should’ve had to have my permission,” Anderson said of the TV series producers. Still, the show’s release somehow empowered her to move forward. She doesn’t blame James for taking the role, but Anderson still isn’t going to ever watch Pam & Tommy. Instead, she’s going to hopefully get an Oscar nod for The Last Showgirl.
“I mean, it’s just one of those things,” Anderson told Cohen. “It happened and now I’m here, and so this is the best payback. I’m being seen and recognized for my work and not these tawdry moments.” And having this success in her late 50s is even sweeter. “I didn’t know that I’d be doing a film at this point in my life, so I was just I’m very grateful, and I got to do it in a very unorthodox way,” she told SheKnows in a recent interview. “I feel like this is just the beginning of my career now, at 57 years old.”
Anderson’s revenge is going to possibly take her to Hollywood’s biggest night — and we are here to celebrate her success!
