How to help Los Angeles wildfire victims and where to look for assistance: From IATSE to the Hollywood Food Coalition and more
Several industry guilds, organizations and individual businesses in the Greater Los Angeles Area are offering assistance to members and others who have lost their homes or been forced to evacuate the wildfires that continue to rage in Pacific Palisades, Malibu, Altadena, and elsewhere. Here is a partial list of those lending a helping hand as well as groups seeking donations:
-IATSE
The union that represents below-the-line workers noted in a release, “If you or a fellow member has been displaced due to the wildfires, please contact the Local office as soon as possible to let us know your/their current circumstances, as well as provide any temporary address and contact information you may have, so that we may mobilize resources appropriately.” The guild also asks its members to make financial contributions and donate needed items as well as volunteer manpower where possible. https://iatse.net
-The Animation Guild
The guild representing the animation community – including artists, writers, technicians, and production employees – has offered a list of resources. Local 80, representing motion picture grips, crafts services, marine, first aid employee,s and warehouse workers, has opened its Burbank stage as a relief shelter. -MusiCares
The nonprofit MusiCares serves as an aid resource for music professionals impacted by natural disasters and has pledged to provide $1,500 in financial assistance and a $500 grocery card. The money can go toward evacuation and relocation costs, instrument replacement/repair, home damage, medical care, mental health services, and general living needs. Eligible recipients include producers, live crew, tour bus drivers, managers, agents, A&R, makeup artists, costume designers, music video creatives, and technicians. https://musicaresrelief@musicares.org
-Entertainment Community Fund
The fund has opened applications for financial relief for all performing arts and entertainment professionals. https://entertainmentcommunity.org/
-Sweet Relief Musicians Fund
The Sweet Relief Musicians Fund is accepting donations and applications for musicians and music industry workers impacted by the fires throughout L.A. County and surrounding areas. Financial relief will assist in equipment loss, medical issues, and living expenses. Grants will be issues to those who have received at least 50 percent of their income from the music industry for at least three years. https://sweetrelief.org
-Inevitable Foundation
The Inevitable Foundation, a nonprofit that works to assist disabled writers and filmmakers along with others in the entertainment industry, has reopened its Emergency Relief Fund to support disabled creatives impacted by the wildfires. This includes destroyed homes, evacuation costs, negative health impacts, and lost employment. https://www.inevitable.foundation/
-The Garry Marshall Theatre
The Burbank-based theatre has opened its doors as a donation collection site. It’s looking for non-perishable food; gently used clothing for adults, teens and children; toiletries; baby supplies including diapers, wipes and formula; bottled drinking water; blankets; sleeping bags, coats and masks; batteries and phone chargers; new undergarments/underwear; or anything else you’re able to donate. GMT will deliver the goods to distribution centers.

-Hollywood Food Coalition
The coalition hosts free community dinners seven nights a week at 6:30 p.m. at a pair of locations in Hollywood: The Salvation Army Campus at 5939 Hollywood Boulevard (Monday thru Friday) and the corner of Orange Drive and Romaine Avenue (Saturday and Sunday). https://hofoco.org/
-World Central Kitchen

-Airbnb
Airbub.org provides free, short-term housing for individuals displaced from their homes or required to evacuate due to the Los Angeles wildfires. In collaboration with 211LA.org, they facilitate stays at the residences of Airbnb hosts, which is made possible through the kindness of both Airbnb and the hosts. This initiative mainly targets those who have lost their homes or had to evacuate from Altadena, Malibu, Pacific Palisades, Pasadena, Santa Monica, and Sylmar.

-Uber and Lyft
Residents in Los Angeles County who have been ordered to evacuate their homes can get a credit from Uber in being transported to an evacuation site. The $40 is valid only for trips to an active shelter by using the code WILDFIRE25. Lyft is also offering $25 vouchers, valid for two trips, to 500 customers. Code: CAFIRERELIEF25.
-The Abbey in West Hollywood
The West Hollywood bar and eatery is offering free meals to anyone displaced by the fires as well as to first responders. Theabbeyweho.com
-The American Red Cross
The Red Cross is accepting donations online. The organization plays a role in disaster recovery by providing emergency shelter, meals, medical care, and recovery planning services. To contribute: redcross.org/donate/donation.html
-The Salvation Army
Donations are being accepted at socal.salvationarmy.org/southern-california for wildfire relief efforts in Southern California. The organization has trained staff that’s mobilizing to provide food, water, shelter, and other needed resources.
-California Fire Foundation
The organization is taking donations at https://www.cafirefoundation.org/ to provide aid and resources for both fire crews and residents.
The blazes raging through the area have killed at least 10 people and forced an estimated 180,000 people from their homes, incinerating thousands of houses and other structures while burning through tens of thousands of acres in Pacific Palisades, Malibu, Altadena, Pasadena, and several smaller communities. Those whose homes have been destroyed include such Hollywood luminaries as Billy Crystal, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Mel Gibson, Milo Ventimiglia, Paris Hilton, Anthony Hopkins, Ricki Lake, and James Woods.
