Sorry, Trump, But Obama ‘Probably’ Does *Not* Like You Despite The Optics At Jimmy Carter’s Funeral

The optics of seeing former President Barack Obama and Donald Trump being cordial toward one another and even sharing a laugh at former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral on Thursday has apparently blinded the President-elect’s memory of everything he’s said about the first Black president of the United States.

Obama and Trump conspicuously sat next to each other during the service at the Washington National Cathedral while surrounded by other past presidents and their families. When they were shown speaking to one another as both sported smiles, the collective question was: What on earth could they be talking, let alone laughing about?

When Trump was asked about it later on, he said he “didn’t realize how friendly it looked.”

Ever the narcissist, Trump then went on to say that he and Obama “probably do” like each other, according to NBC News:

“I said, ‘Boy, they look like two people that like each other.’ And we probably do,” Trump said. “We have a little different philosophies, right? But we probably do. I don’t know. We just got along. But I got along with just about everybody.”

Of course, the scandal-free Obama, being the epitome of class, “probably” knows there is a time and a place for everything, which explains the level of civility he extended to Trump during such a solemn event.

But in public speeches, Obama has repeatedly told anyone listening how he actually — not “probably” — feels about Trump.

Aside from likely being rankled by Trump doing everything from threatening Michelle Obama (who was not in attendance at Jimmy Carter’s funeral); to criminalizing Obama; to racist dog whistles about Obama’s middle name; to pioneering the racist birther attacks against Obama; to repeatedly vowing to repeal the Affordable Care Act, Obama’s signature health care law commonly known as Obamacare; to Trump’s long history of anti-Black racism and discrimination; to Trump tweeting deepfake doctored videos of Obama; to even blaming Obama for the air conditioning at the White House, Obama has made it more than clear multiple notable times that he “probably” doesn’t like Trump much if at all.

“Trump hasn’t stopped whining since he rode down that golden elevator,” Obama told 2024 DNC attendees in Chicago last summer, notably chiding Mr. MAGA or the “childish nicknames” he likes to bestow upon his political enemies. Obama also mocked Trump’s “weird obsession with crowd sizes,” a calculated attack on Trump’s insecurity about people in attendance at his rallies.

When the Obamas returned to the White House in 2022 to see their official portraits unveiled, the 44th president made an off-color reference that was “probably” an indirect jab at his controversial successor.

“It is good to be back,” Obama said smiling before setting up an apparent punchline: “We’ll try not to tear up the place.”

The multi-layered dig at Trump could have been referring to the recent raid on Trump’s residence at his Mar-a -Lago resort in Florida, where federal agents conducted a raid that reportedly left the premises in shambles. The operation to retrieve classified documents that Trump illegally removed from the White House particularly rendered Melania Trump’s closet a “mess,” according to reports fueled by Trump himself.

Obama also could have been making a reference to the Jan. 6 Committee testimony of star witness Cassidy Hutchinson — a former aide to Mark Meadows, Trump’s White House chief of staff — who claimed under oath that she witnessed Trump throw a tantrum — and food.

It’s unlikely Obama was talking about the Capitol insurrection, which resulted in multiple deaths from a violent, racist mob incited by Trump.

“I did hope for the sake of our country, that Donald Trump might show some interest in taking the job seriously. That he might come to feel the weight of the office. And discover some reverence for the democracy that had been placed in his care,” Obama said while delivering his keynote address at the 2020 Democratic National Convention. “But he never did.”

Obama later added: “Donald Trump hasn’t grown into the job because he can’t. And the consequences of that failure are severe: 170,000 Americans dead, millions of jobs gone while those at the top take in more than ever. Our worst impulses unleashed, our proud reputation around the world badly diminished and our democratic institutions threatened like never before.”

The above are but a small handful of examples of Obama publicly telling America exactly how he feels about Trump, which should set the record straight about what the two were “probably” gabbing about at Jimmy Carter’s funeral.
