Church Point woman charged after allegedly opening casket at Opelousas cemetery
OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY) -- A Church Point woman has been arrested after allegedly opening a casket at a cemetery in Opelousas, authorities said.
Quina Clay, 34, of Church Point, is charged with misdemeanor grave desecration in connection with an incident Dec. 10 at Serenity Memorial Park in Opelousas.
Deputies with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office investigated a complaint of desecration of a grave at Serenity Memorial Park. The complainant told deputies that her brother’s casket had been opened by a group of girls and gave the names of four individuals.
Deputies interviewed employees of the Memorial Park who witnessed the event, according to St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz.
“The subsequent investigation led to the positive identification of Quina Clay as the individual responsible for the opening of the casket,” Guidroz said. “While the loss of someone we know or loved is always a traumatic event, it does not justify the actions taken by the parties involved.”
Anyone with additional information about this incident is asked to call the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office at 337-948-6516.
