Child hit by car in Vancouver parking lot has life-threatening injuries, police say
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – Vancouver police say a 5-year-old child was hit by a vehicle Thursday in the parking lot of the Townhouse Square Apartments.
Officers responded to the crash at 8701 E Mill Plain Blvd around 3:30 p.m. and found the child with life-threatening injuries. The child was taken to the hospital.
The driver, who remained at the scene, told officers that he had been driving through the parking lot when he felt his rear passenger tire run over something. He also told police he got out and found the child on his bike on the ground.
“It appears the child was riding his bike between two parked vehicles before entering the roadway area of the parking lot,” officials said. “The child was not wearing a helmet.”
Authorities said neither speed nor impairment were factors in the crash. An investigation is ongoing.
