I gave my bedroom a stunning makeover for just £15 – the best part is 25p Homebase bargain
A SAVVY mum has revealed she managed to give her bedroom a stunning makeover for less than £15 – and the DIY project was inspired by a 25p buy.
Claire, from Scotland, had popped into her local Homebase to check out their closing down sale before New Year.
A mum picked up a 25p bargain in the Homebase sale[/caption] Claire used an old bed to create a panelling feature on the bedroom wall[/caption] She painted it with a tin of £9.99 paint from The Range[/caption] The mum’s 25p wallpaper from Homebase finished the look[/caption]And she wasn’t disappointed, spotting a basket of trendy wallpaper rolls for less than £1.
Claire told Fabulous: “My bedroom needed a makeover. Whilst shopping in Homebase I noticed a basket of odd rolls of wallpaper for 25p and picked one up.
“I thought it would look good as a feature wall but once I got home I realised there wouldn’t be enough to do the whole wall.”
Rather than ditch her DIY project, the creative mum salvaged it with an old bed she had stored in the attic.
She used the wooden slats from the bed to create a panelling feature on the lower half of the wall, using £4 wood glue – also from Homebase – to secure it.
She said: “I had previously seen some nice panelling designs online and remembered I had an old singe bed in the loft.
“I used the slats from it and attached them to the wall using some strong wood glue to create a panelling look and used the wallpaper above.”
Claire then picked up a tin of forest green paint for £9.99 in The Range to finish off the panelling – perfectly complimenting the colours in her bargain geometric wallpaper.
She completed the makeover by giving the rest of the walls a fresh coat of grey paint from a tin she already had in the house.
And her efforts instantly trasformed the plain bedroom into a warm and inviting space.
The best part? The makeover cost just £14.24.
Claire added: “I love how it has turned out and I’m looking forward to decorating the other rooms in the house with bargain finds and things I may already have lying around.
“I love decorating and you can’t beat it when you can do it cheap.”
HOMEBASE STRUGGLES
Homebase crashed into administration last November with Chris Dawson, owner of The Range, rescuing 70 stores through a pre-pack administration deal.
Mr Dawson also bought Homebase’s 40-year-old brand and its website as part of the deal.
However, the offer from The Range meant 74 Homebase branches, employing 2,000 staff, were left at risk of permanent closure unless a buyer stepped in.
A deadline was set of November 29 for potential buyers to acquire the 74 sites but it’s still unclear whether any of them have been saved.
Homebase previously confirmed six sites would closed before the end of 2024, including Sutton Coldfield, Bromsgrove, Cromer, Fareham, Newark and Rugby.
Two others in Wales have launched closing down sales.
Three more Homebase sites in Derry, Inverurie, and Omagh are also set to close in the coming months, along with a branch in Glenrothes near Fife.
