Hoda Kotb’s Daughters Enjoy Sweet Snuggles (& a Special Guest!) With Their Mom on Final Today Broadcast
Hoda Kotb has had an emotional rollercoaster of a week. The now-former (!!!) Today Show anchor just wrapped her final broadcast, and producers have made the week extra special for the mom of two. There has been a slew of heartwarming surprise guests — perhaps none more meaningful than Kermit the Frog.
When asked what his favorite thing is about Kotb, the beloved Muppet had an immediate answer.
“Oh gee, I’ve got to go with her smile,” he said, and everyone in the NBC studio nodded along. “You’ve got a great smile. It really lights up a room, doesn’t it?”
“You really do make every day as beautiful as a rainbow,” he said before serenading Kotb and her daughters Hayley, 8 and Hope, 5 with an emotional rendition of “Rainbow Connection.” It’s the song Kotb sings to her daughters every morning and every night, per co-host Savannah Guthrie. (I’m not crying, you’re crying!)
In the heartwrenching video, Kermit belts out the classic while Kotb and other Today anchors sing along. As Kotb wipes away tears, she snuggles up with her daughters, who must have been starstruck to get this special performance from the Kermit the Frog.
“It’s all too much ????????,” one follower commented.
“Guys I was ok-ish until you let this happen ????????????,” another added.
“How much can I cry in one morning?! ????,” said yet another.
Kotb told People earlier this week that she treasures the bracelets, cards, and signs that people give to her when she’s out on the Today Plaza.
“I asked our guys to roll up every sign that people made so I could take them home,” she told the outlet. “I want them in my house … One day my kids are going to unroll them and go, ‘What did you used to do?’ I’ll be like, ‘Look, it’s a long story.'”
A long story that she’ll now have plenty of time to tell them. When Kotb announced her plans to take a step back from Today in September, she revealed that her daughters played a major role in her decision.
“Obviously I had my kiddos late in life, and I was thinking that they deserve a bigger piece of my time pie that I have,” she said. “I feel like we only have a finite amount of time. And so, with all that being said, this is the hardest thing in the world.”
