'It will stop': Baldwin police chief looking to crack down on possible gang violence
BALDWIN, La. (KLFY) --- Baldwin Police Chief Anthony Gibson believes gang activity could be the cause for the recent rise in crime around town.
On Jan. 3, two men allegedly shot several rounds into a vehicle on Rod Lane before fleeing the scene. Two days later, two cars were shot up on Lincoln Street injuring three people. While the shootings happened on different days, Gibson believes they are related.
"This kind of stuff I am not going to tolerate," Gibson said. "Yes, I'm upset and angry, coming into my town pulling this kind of stuff."
He also hopes lawmakers can wake up and do something about gang activity not only in his town but across the state.
"I hope other cities, other chiefs, state leaders (and) state representatives take this into consideration of some kind law that we get these gangsters or whatever you call them off the road," Gibson said.
Since he took over as leader of the police department, Gibson says he has kept the crime in Baldwin down. With the recent shootings taking place, he says he will stop at nothing to bring the violence to an end.
"People believe in me," he said. "They know me. I never sleep until I get the job. You got a chief that cares for you. You got a chief who promises this will stop. It will stop."
