Buffalo music staple to close at end of the month
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Buffalo music staple will close its doors at the end of the month.
Mohawk Place, a cornerstone music hall that has been an integral part of Buffalo's music scene for decades, will close, the venue confirmed.
The venue has not been without controversy. The venue was sued last month by a 24-year-old woman who suffered a broken neck and was partially paralyzed last April at a show when John Floreani, the lead singer of the Australian rock band Trophy Eyes, dove on top of fans while trying to crowd surf.
According to state records, the venue is also facing debt issues.
Electric Avenue Cafe, a sister business of Mohawk Place, closed its doors last fall. The website for Mohawk Place is not accessible as of Friday morning and an error message states that the domain name has expired.
Mohawk Place will host its final show on Jan. 31. Three shows scheduled for February have been moved to new venues.
