Tottenham still hope to beat Chelsea to exciting 21-year-old forward
Although Chelsea are the front-runners to sign one Premier League striker, Tottenham Hotspur cannot be ruled out from the race just yet, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.
Tottenham want to add more firepower to their forward line
Based on the reports over recent days, it appears that Tottenham are keen to add another top striker to their squad in the current transfer window.
A number of sources have installed the Lilywhites as one of the leading contenders to sign PSG’s Randal Kolo Muani, while the speculation linking Jonathan David with a move to Spurs is not going away.
Earlier this season, it was also widely reported that Tottenham have an eye on one young striker, who is making waves in the Premier League this season, and there has now been a fresh update on the matter.
Tottenham cannot be ruled out of race for Liam Delap
The player in question is Liam Delap, who has had an exceptional start to his Premier League career since leaving Manchester City to join Ipswich Town last summer.
Ben Jacobs believes that Tottenham are still very much in the running to sign the City academy graduate, with Ange Postecoglou being a fan of his all-round qualities.
Speaking about Delap‘s future, the journalist said on the Last Word on Spurs: “Don’t discount Tottenham, they have been very impressed with Delap as everyone has been this season.
“It’s eight Premier League goals and don’t just look at his goals you look at his hold-up play, the physicality, the hard work he does for his team off the ball, the intelligence and the monster mentality we know Ange Postecoglou likes.
“So keep an eye on Delap, there will be several Premier League and Europe clubs in the mix. Chelsea are the early front runners but Tottenham are not to be discounted.”
Why Delap might not be Tottenham’s top target
Postecoglou would ideally likely want a versatile striker to serve as Dominic Solanke‘s backup.
Someone like Randal Kolo Muani might be an ideal long-term replacement for Richarlison (when he eventually leaves) as the Frenchman can play across the frontline.
In stark contrast, Delap is an out-and-out number nine, and it remains to be seen if Spurs will be a pay big fee for a player who can only be a backup.
