Jeremy Kyle returns to ITV for first time in five years as he signs up for new series of hit show
JEREMY Kyle is returning to ITV for the first time in five years after his ITV show was axed.
The Sun can reveal he’ll be a guest on the new series of Kate Garraway’s Life Stories.
Kate, 57, and TalkTV presenter Jeremy, 59, will go into depth about his extraordinary career and personal life on the long-running celebrity interview series.
A source told The Sun: “He filmed with Kate this week and was really open honest about everything he’s been through.
“Everyone will be thrilled to see him back at ITV, it’s a really great episode.”
The Jeremy Kyle Show drew a million viewers per episode but was axed for good in 2019 after guest Steve Dymond, 63, died from an overdose.
He was found dead 10 days after failing a love rat lie detector test on the popular daytime chat show.
The show was pulled off air as broadcast bosses worked frantically to come up with a final decision on its future.
ITV then permanently scrapped the programme, which ran 3,320 episodes over 14 years.
A year later, Jeremy welcomed a baby boy with second wife Vicky Burton.
In September, a coroner judged that there was no direct link between the show and the suicide.
After attending the inquest in person, a vindicated Jeremy said “my name has finally been cleared”.
Last month, he also spoke candidly on the impact of that time on his mental health.
The former ITV anchor told how he had suffered a “horrific, complete breakdown” for two years.
Humbled broadcaster Jeremy revealed he was prescribed with antidepressant Citalopram in the wake of the tragedy and cancellation of his ITV daytime series.
The star also revealed Vicky – who worked as a nanny to his older kids before they met again after his split from his first wife – had been his rock.
He told OK! magazine: “I was an easy target.
“We must never forget that a man died, but it’s been proven that was nothing whatsoever to do with me.
“It’s been five years of hell. But with the strength of this woman (Vicky) I’m on the other side.
“For two years it was horrific, and I had a complete breakdown.
“It was Vicky who dragged me out of bed. She saved me.”
He continued: “I’m not going to spend my life apologising for a show that 30,000 people came on and loved, and millions around the world watched.
“There’s a very sad postscript, but it’s been proven that wasn’t the show’s fault.”
TalkTV star Jeremy added: “I’m 60 next year and life feels like it’s starting again.
“Now we need to look ahead. I don’t want this to be my legacy – I want my legacy to be that I’m a great dad.”
Jeremy is a dad of five – but has ruled out having a sixth child.
STEVE’S TRAGEDY
Construction worker Steve appeared on the Jeremy Kyle Show in a bid to win back his ex-fiancée Jane Callaghan after she suspected him of cheating on her.
He denied being unfaithful, but failed a lie detector test. The footage was never broadcast.
Steve, who had a history of mental health issues and previously tried to take his own life on four occasions, overdosed seven days later.
After being rejected from the programme a month earlier over concerns for his wellbeing, he got a letter of good health from his GP and was constantly asking producers to let him appear — calling them up to 50 times.
Aftercare records showed he later showed no dissatisfaction with Jeremy or the ITV show about his treatment.
Jane also told them how much she enjoyed the show and how great Jeremy was.
But his heartbreaking death prompted the immediate cancellation of the show — the network’s most popular daytime programme — after 14 years.
It also lead to a parliamentary inquiry into the broadcaster’s treatment of reality show contestants.
