'Can't overstate the significance': Legal expert flags 'big deal' about Trump sentencing
Civil rights attorney Charles Coleman Jr. and others on MSNBC noted during Donald Trump's sentencing in New York on Friday that the incoming president will be the first in history to enter office as a convicted felon.
What he called a "big deal," however, is that Trump will score no punishment for his 34 felony counts.
"To give him an unconditional discharge as a convicted felon for a felony is a big deal and something that historically would have never happened to someone else," he said.

"It's very hard to listen to everything happening right now for the millions of Americans that have had to deal with this themselves, their friends, their family and understanding what that means going forward," Coleman said.
"Donald Trump will walk out of court despite the rhetoric, despite the record, despite what is being said by the D.A.'s office and what I anticipate will be set by Judge Merchan still, at the end of the day, a free man," he anticipated.
He was proved correct, with Merchan issuing an unconditional discharge.
Trump could have served up to four years in prison and a $35,000 fine for each charge, according to experts.
