Stampede at India’s Andhra Pradesh Temple leaves 6 dead, 35 injured
Officials in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh announced on Thursday that at least six people were killed and 35 others injured in a stampede at a Hindu temple.
The incident took place at the “Tirupati” temple, one of the wealthiest temples in India, which has a history of nearly two thousand years.
S. Venkateswara, a senior official in the state, stated that thousands of people had gathered outside the temple to obtain free entry tickets, and when the gates were opened, they surged toward the temple.
According to the local official, 2,500 people were passing through the entrance when some were trampled underfoot.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, January 8.
Hindus believe that from January 10 to 19 are auspicious days for visiting this temple.
This tragic incident highlights the need for better crowd control measures at religious and other large gatherings in India. With millions of people visiting temples and other places of worship, authorities must implement modern technologies and safety protocols to prevent such disasters in the future.
The tragic loss of life and injuries call for urgent reforms to ensure the safety and well-being of the devotees.
