Duke Falls In Overtime At UNC, 53-46
Next play.
Number 14 Duke went over to Chapel Hill and lost a low-scoring, overtime affair to the Tar Heels, 53-46.
Needless to say, it was a poor shooting game. UNC shot 32 percent overall to Duke’s 23.5 percent. The Tar Heels hit just 4-7 on threes (23.5 percent) to 2-8 (25 percent) for the Blue Devils.
It’s a bit of a trend for Duke. In the last loss, to South Florida, the Devils shot 38.9/23.5 percent.
All in all, it wasn’t the best of nights for Duke, but there was some good news.
First, Toby Fournier is back. She missed a bit of time with an injury and she didn't shoot well (0-8/0-1), but Fournier did get six rebounds in 19 minutes. It’s good to see her back.
And in another bit of good news, we don’t know that we’ve ever seen this before in any level of basketball, but in the last
games, Duke has forced 26 turnovers (UNC), 29 against Pitt and 29 against Boston College. Prior to the BC game we could never remember a game coming close to 30 turnovers. In the last three, Duke has averaged 28. That’s just astounding.
With the loss, Duke moves 12-4 and 3-1 in the ACC. Next up - a trip to Virginia on Sunday.
