Buckeyes, Longhorns fans living under one roof
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- Ohio State faces the Texas Longhorns Friday in the Cotton Bowl at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
There's certainly no shortage of Buckeyes fans in Texas. In fact, one family has a house divided.
Gurpreet Singh graduated from Ohio State in 1998. He said the rivalry runs deep for his family. His sister went to the University of Michigan, but he bleeds scarlet and gray. Now, as his Buckeyes take on Texas, he has another rival to worry about. His daughter Mehak Arora is a student at the University of Texas.
"We all get along but we also all get on each other's nerves when we're saying things like 'ha ha you're going to get taken down'," Arora said.
Arora was raised a Buckeye fan until she became a Longhorn.
"I went to go watch Ohio State play games like at watch parties because my dad took me and you know, like in middle school, I would ask for like Ohio State merch," Arora said.
Arora said when it comes time for the Cotton Bowl matchup, most of those clothes will be staying in the closet. Instead, the father daughter duo has come up with a compromise.
"Me and my dad actually made an agreement that I would wear my Texas sweatshirt and an Ohio state beanie, and he's going to wear his Ohio State sweatshirt and a Texas beanie," Arora said.
The two went to the Cotton Bowl last year, and this year they knew they couldn't miss it.
"I think it's been a really special season since both of our teams have made it so far and are playing each other," Arora said. "That's kind of crazy. We actually were hypothesizing at the beginning of the season like there's a chance that Ohio State and Texas could play later in the season, and we were like if that game happens, we are going to that game and so I think we got really lucky with that."
The winner of the Cotton Bowl is off to the national championship. The Buckeyes and Longhorns will meet again in Ohio State's season opener next season.
