Five unanswered questions from Prince Harry’s Spare – two years on
IT’S been two years since the release of Prince Harry’s explosive memoir Spare – but there are still many questions that have gone unanswered.
When it was released in January 2023, the bombshell book sold 3.2million copies in its first week of publication, but it ruffled royal feathers.
Prince Harry’s Spare memoir was released to a mixed response two years ago[/caption] On its first day, Spare sold more than 1.4 million copies in all formats in the US, Canada and the UK[/caption]While some fans praised Harry for opening up about his experience of royal life, others slammed his very public criticism of his family.
The Duke of Sussex claimed he was knocked to the ground in a row with brother William who, he says, had called Harry’s wife Meghan “rude” and “difficult”.
He was also widely mocked for revealing he applied Elizabeth Arden cream to his frostbitten todger.
And the prince wrote that he lost his virginity in an “inglorious” episode with an older woman who “smacked my rump and sent me off to graze”.
Here we take a look at the biggest unanswered questions two years after its release…
Have Meghan and Kate healed their rift?
Last year was tough for Princess Kate who had chemotherapy as preventative cancer treatment.
But did she have the support of Meghan Markle?
The Duke of Sussex used to be known to be close with sister-in-law Kate, but his relationship with the Princess of Wales along with his brother William has now sharply deteriorated.
According to his book, a feud began between Meghan and Kate during a phone call about wedding rehearsals.
In an explosive section of his biography, Harry revealed that in the run up to the royal wedding in 2018, Meghan told the Princess of Wales that she must have “baby brain”.
Harry also sensationally claimed Will and Kate encouraged him to wear his notorious Nazi uniform to a fancy dress party, according to a leaked excerpt from his book.
He says the now Prince and Princess of Wales “howled with laughter” when they saw him dressed up in the offensive outfit for the party in 2005.
There were no pictures of Kate and Meghan together last, with the Duchess not setting foot in the UK in 2024.
Whether their rocky relationship can be patched up remains to be seen, although it does appear unsalvageable at this point.
The explosive revelations in Harry's book Spare include:
- Prince Harry claimed his brother William ‘attacked’ him in a row over Meghan Markle
- Harry called his therapist instead of Meg after the confrontation with his brother
- Charles pleaded with Harry and William not to ‘make his final years a misery’
- The Duke of Sussex revealed the nicknames he uses with William
- Harry claimed William and Kate Middleton encouraged him to wear the infamous Nazi uniform
- The duke said he does want to go to King Charles’ coronation, a trailer for his ITV interview has revealed
- The bombshell book accidentally went on sale early in Spain – and we got our hands on one of the first copies
- Meanwhile, seven times Harry was welcomed by the Royals have been revealed
Did the royals ever read Spare and what was their reaction?
The Prince of Wales and King Charles have both been asked about Prince Harry’s memoir during public engagements.
However, no royal family members have commented on Spare.
According to the Daily Mail, Charles has not read it.
King Charles was said to have not read Spare – but is that still the case?[/caption]A friend of the family told the publication: “Why would he read something that he knows is going to be so hurtful?”
Royal biographer Omid Scobie claimed in his controversial book Endgame that William has read some passages of the book but “not the full thing”.
What did Will and Harry actually say in their fight?
The Duke of Sussex sparked headlines after he alleged he had a physical confrontation with William.
Harry made the extraordinary claim that his brother “knocked him to the floor” during an argument about Meghan.
The Duke alleged William “grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and … knocked me to the floor”.
Is there any hope for Prince William and Prince Harry reconciling?[/caption]Harry claimed that William branded Meghan “rude” and “difficult” during a row at his then residence on the grounds of Kensington Palace, Nottingham Cottage.
William reportedly said he was just trying to help Harry before the alleged confrontation happened.
The brothers reportedly still haven’t patched things up, and despite both attending the same funeral in August, they “kept their distance.”
What really happened during that frosty walkabout?
The once-dubbed Fab Four stepped out together following the Queen’s death in 2022[/caption]Harry, Meghan, Kate and William briefly appeared together outside Windsor Castle in September 2022 following the Queen’s death.
Although the monarch’s last hours were mentioned in Spare, Harry failed to mention the moment with William and Kate.
It appears to have been tense for Kate, who reportedly found participating in a walkabout with Meghan and Harry “one of the hardest things she has had to do”, according to royal author Robert Jobson.
He claimed Catherine admitted to a senior royal that this was down to ill feeling between the two couples, and sources said the image of unity was an “illusion”.
Are there more books to come?
Could we see another book coming from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex?[/caption]The Sussexes reportedly signed a four-book deal with publishers Penguin Random House in 2021, meaning more tell-all books could be coming in the future.
The royals are said to be bracing for Meghan to release her own memoir, sources claim.
The former actress is said to be “contemplating getting entirely candid about her time in the royal limelight” in her own autobiography.
A source told OK: “She fully intends to write this book and leave no stone unturned.
“It’s just a question of timing and how long she wishes to hold out in order to preserve what’s left of her and Harry’s relationship with King Charles.
“The feeling at this point is there’s little to lose, and she may as well go ahead.
“The process is already quietly underway.”
And a Hollywood agent told The Mail on Sunday: “I would find it surprising if Meghan didn’t publish her own story, to be honest.
“Spare is clearly Prince Harry‘s chance to tell his, but hers is equally compelling.
“I mean, how many actresses end up marrying a Prince?”
