Alec Baldwin is suing the Santa Fe prosecutors in his Rust shooting case.
The 66-year-old actor filed a civil lawsuit on Thursday (January 9) in Santa Fe, New Mex., where he is citing malicious prosecution and civil rights violations, according to AP.
The news comes just a couple weeks after the case came to a close following the prosecutor dropping the appeal.

In his lawsuit, Alec is alleging defamation and says the “prosecutors and investigators intentionally mishandled evidence as they pursued the case.”
He has named special prosecutor Kari Morrissey and Santa Fe District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies as defendants, as well as three Santa Fe County sheriff’s office investigators and the county board of commissioners.
“Defendants sought at every turn to scapegoat Baldwin for the acts and omissions of others, regardless of the evidence or the law,” the lawsuit reads. He also accuses them of targeting him for professional or political gain.
THR also reports the lawsuit has claims of “defamation, malicious abuse of the judicial process and intentional spoilation of evidence”
Stated in the lawsuit are a series of missteps by the prosecution, including citing a firearm law that wasn’t in effect at the time of the shooting, and a conflict of interest from former special prosecutor Andrea Reeb, who was part of the team that initially charged Baldwin.
