Caleb Williams Is Connected To More Than One Bears Coaching Target
Make no mistake. No player is more central to the Chicago Bears coaching search than Caleb Williams. They know the next coach must be able to develop him into the star he’s capable of being. Anybody who presents a half-baked plan on that front isn’t likely to get far in the interview process. Many insiders have suggested Kliff Kingsbury is an obvious favorite for the job. He’s an offensive specialist who just helped Jayden Daniels to a Rookie of the Year season. More importantly, he knows Williams. They worked together last year at USC.
One would think that gives Kingsbury the edge. Only there is something key to remember. He isn’t the only one who has ties to Williams. Kalyn Kahler of the Chicago Tribune revealed that another prominent offensive mind scheduled to meet with the team is also familiar with the young quarterback.
Brady is a wild card in the Caleb Williams situation.
Many see him as another young offensive wizard like Sean McVay when he ascended a few years ago. The Bills’ offensive coordinator has helped elevate Josh Allen to MVP levels despite the team losing key offensive weapons this off-season. Couple this with the work he did at LSU with Joe Burrow, winning a Heisman and a national title in 2019, and you start to understand why there’s so much hype around Brady. Caleb Williams won’t decide who the next Bears head coach will be. However, his ability to connect and mesh with whoever that coach is will be crucial. That should give Brady an inside track if he presents a solid plan for both him and the team.
Right now, most consider him a dark horse compared to favorites like Ben Johnson, Pete Carroll, and Todd Monken from Baltimore. How Brady performs in the interview will determine the course of this potential partnership.
