Red Sox Rumors: Boston Looking To Make Another ‘Significant’ Trade
The Red Sox made a pretty monumental trade to kick off the offseason, but they might not be satisfied with just the one.
Boston wants to get something else done, according to Jon Morosi of MLB Network.
“I do believe the Red Sox want to make at least one more significant trade,” Morosi said on Thursday. “It could be for (St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Nolan) Arenado, it could be for an arm like (Miami Marlins pitcher) Sandy Alcántara.”
Alcántara, 29, is an interesting case as he would serve as another top-of-the-rotation arm like recent acquisition Garrett Crochet. Boston certainly would be interested in adding him to the rotation, but the price and the Miami Marlins’ reported interest in keeping him would probably make that tough.
“Sandy is not being traded before Opening Day,” Craig Mish of Sportsgrid said in response. “He has been given several assurances of this. Even in the midst of recent developments. It is not happening.”
Arendao, however, feels all the more likely. The Red Sox aren’t the only team who could land the eight-time All-Star, though.
“I was told by a source that it’s not necessarily Boston or bust for Arenado,” Morosi said. “… Arenado is at least open-minded to places like Detroit or Seattle, in a way that he might not have been a month ago when more options were there in front of him. Boston is still probably at the top of the list — competitive team, a great place to hit, his swing would play really well there. I’m told in the last 24 hours that Boston is not the only team Arenado is willing to waive his no-trade clause for.”
What do you think, Red Sox fans? Would you be interested in Arenado or Alcántara?
