DPS seeks public help to identify woman who died in New Year's Day crash
AUSTIN (KXAN) -- The Texas Department of Public Safety seeks public help to identify a woman who died in a crash in Del Valle on New Year's Day, the agency said in a news release.
DPS said the crash happened around 8:20 p.m. when a vehicle was traveling eastbound in the 10800 block of McAngus Road.
"After cresting a small hill, the vehicle struck a female pedestrian who was in the roadway. The driver was unable to take evasive action. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation," DPS said in the release.
DPS said the woman was airlifted to Dell Seton Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. The woman has not been identified, and she had no forms of identification on her, the release said.
The woman was described by DPS as a Hispanic woman, approximately 20 years old, 5 feet 3 inches, approximately 108 pounds with long, straight black hair. She was wearing a gray sweatshirt, a burn orange shirt and blue jeans and gold-colored sandals. The woman was "likely homeless."
Prior to the crash, DPS said the woman was last seen at a gas station at 12201 Pearce Lane. The agency said she was asking for a ride to Stassney Lane in south Austin. The woman was "frequenting the gas station for five nights prior to the crash."
Anyone with any information on the woman is urged to contact DPS at 512-424-7391.
