More suspensions issued in Robert Brooks case
MARCY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Four more people have been disciplined in connection to the fatal beating of Marcy Correctional Facility inmate Robert Brooks. They were suspended without pay.
The New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS) identified the four additional employees as Sgt. Christine Ploss, CO Jared Popiel, Sgt. Evan Thisse, and RN 1 Patricia Matos.
Fourteen other people had already been suspended without pay or resigned.
New York Attorney General Letitia James said Brooks died on Dec. 10, 2024, at the hospital following “an encounter with New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS) officers at Marcy Correctional Facility.” He suffered multiple horrific injuries and died after being beaten as an inmate at Marcy Correctional Facility, according to court paperwork.
Brooks, 43, of Greece, was sentenced to serve 12 years in prison for an assault in Monroe County. He was admitted to Marcy in 2017.
