PHOTOS: Truck crashes through AT&T store, driver charged with DUII
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A man was arrested and accused of driving under the influence of intoxicants after a truck crashed through an AT&T store in Warrenton Thursday morning, injuring one person.
Warrenton resident Robert Edward Stump, 47, was charged with DUII, reckless driving, criminal mischief, recklessly endangering and assault, the Warrenton Police Department confirmed to KOIN 6 News.
One person who was injured was transported to the Columbia Memorial Hospital where they were treated and then released, the Warrenton Chief of Police Matthew Workman told KOIN 6 via email.
Workman added the store is not safe and remains closed to the public until repairs can be completed.
KOIN 6 spoke with a customer who was inside the store when the crash happened and took photos of the aftermath. The photos show a black pickup truck in the middle of an AT&T sales floor with a broken glass wall framing the street behind it.
Astoria resident Quinn Haase, 41, was inside the store looking to upgrade work phones through AT&T as part of his duties as the Executive Director of the Astoria Downtown Historic District Association.
"Out of the corner of my eye, I could see something big coming. I barely had time to react," Haase said, adding he doesn't know if he would have made it had he been standing just a few feet forward.
"I happened to be a little bit further back already, I was able to step back and avoid any kind of injury or collision at all," Haase said.
Haase said it was an employee helping him who got injured when the crash happened after 11 a.m.
"The employee I was working with, you could tell there was some injury, he complained that his leg was hurting. And he was on the ground. He popped up and then sort of hobbled over and we kind of all moved to the back of the store."
Both Haase and another employee who was not injured then called 911.
