THERE’S nothing worse than standing in the cold and de-icing the car on a chilly morning.
From the boom of car hack videos on social media, it appears that motorists will do anything for a quick fix.
One crafty Reddit user discovered an ASDA essential that defrosts windscreens in a matter of seconds.
The motorist shared a snap of their homemade concoction which consists of an empty spray bottle filled with screenwash.
“De-icing for uncovered parking. Windshield wiper fluid in a spray bottle to get all the windows with minimal scraping,” they wrote beside their photo on the website.
While the yellow colour of the liquid amassed tongue-in-cheek comments, many readers were grateful for the tip.
A five-litre bottle of screenwash costs just £3.50 and according to the retailer: “Asda All Seasons Screenwash Concentrate contains a freezing inhibitor for winter conditions and is suitable for use all year round.
“Add to windscreen washer bottle using the mixing ratios as a guide: For normal driving conditions use 25% Screenwash.
“For winter driving conditions use 50% Screenwash. For severe driving conditions use undiluted.”
One Reddit user raised the question: “Am I missing something here? You can just by de-icer ready to go in spray cans?”
But many pointed out that de-icer cans cost between £1.70 and £4.
This comes as B&M shoppers flock to buy a £2 ice-busting product.
Described as a “must have” for drivers across the UK, the item has been showered with positive reviews online.
Drivers have been desperate to find new ways to de-ice windscreens after temperatures in parts of the UK plummeted to -13C overnight on Sunday.
However, they may find a saviour in Holts De-Icer Professional which claims to be able to “quickly” clear frost, ice, and snow from your windshield.

It’s easy to use too – simply spray it onto your windows after the frost sets in and the de-icer will “do the hard work for you.”
Holts claims it will work in temperature as low as -20C and that the “fast acting” product will allow you to drive away quicker without the risk of any “dangerous” refreeze or damage to your paintwork.
The 600ml canister is also available from Morrisons for £3 as well as Amazon for £5.99, making B&M’s offering even more enticing.
