Chrissy Teigen & John Legend’s Family Safely Evacuated During Their California Home With 5 Pets: ‘This Is Surreal’
Chrissy Teigen and John Legend have safely made it to a hotel with all four kids and five pets after evacuating their California home amid the Los Angeles wildfires.
On Wednesday evening, the Cravings author shared a mirror selfie on her Instagram story. She was standing in her closet with a suitcase on the floor and one hand covering her face. “This is surreal,” she wrote. “I’m very scared now. Packing.” (PEOPLE has screenshots HERE.) She also shared a picture of what Legend was up to while she was packing — building a Lego set.
“I f—ing told John to not start this Lego,” she wrote over a photo of Legos all over the coffee table. Ah, men — what are you going to do with them, you know?
Later, Teigen shared an update to fans, letting them know that her and Legend’s kids Luna, 8, Miles, 6, Esti, 23 months, and Wren, 18 months, had made it to the hotel along with the family’s dogs Petey, Pearl, Pebble, and Penny, and the family’s bearded dragon named Sebastian. “4 dogs 4 kids and a bearded dragon walk into a hotel,” she wrote over a video on her story. In the video, she smiles from a hotel bed as her dogs climb all over her. In another clip, Legend smiled at the camera next to the dogs and calmly said, “Hi everyone.”
Prior to evacuating, Teigen reflected on the fires on her Instagram story, writing, “I haven’t had the words, it is a hellscape,” she said. “We are OK as of right now, and I felt weird saying that with so many people we know and don’t know who are not OK. Thank you for reaching out.”
“Looking for any and all ways to help our community right now, please send anything you see,” she continued. “And god bless the firefighters and all first responders.”
At least 130,000 residents are under evacuation orders due to the wildfires burning across Los Angeles County, with five fatalities reported and more than 2,000 structures burned, making this one of the most destructive firestorms in memory, according to the Los Angeles Times. Our hearts go out to everyone affected by this scary situation unfolding.
