Producers Guild postpones PGA Awards nominations by two days amid Los Angeles wildfires
As the destructive wildfires in Los Angeles continue to rage, the Producers Guild of America announced on Thursday that its annual awards nominations will be delayed to Sunday, Jan. 12. The PGA Awards nominations announcement was initially scheduled for Friday.
“Due to LA County wildfires, the Producers Guild of America will be extending the voting window for the PGA Awards by two days until Saturday, Jan. 11, to allow members additional time to cast their ballots. The official PGA Awards nominations will now be announced on Sunday, Jan. 12,” representatives for the PGA said in a statement.
The devastating wildfires have impacted several awards season events. The Critics Choice Awards were postponed from Sunday, Jan. 12, to Sunday, Jan. 26. The AFI Awards luncheon and BAFTA tea party were canceled outright, both scheduled for later this week. Several film premieres, including The Last Showgirl, were also canceled.
The fires have also impacted the awards calendar. The Writers Guild of America announced that its awards nominations will be delayed until Monday, Jan. 13 (they had been set to arrive on Thursday). Similarly, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences extended Oscar nomination voting by two days to Tuesday, Jan. 14. As a result, the Oscar nominations were also delayed from Friday, Jan. 17, to Sunday, Jan. 19. The Academy has not revealed further details about how the 2025 Oscar nominations will be announced.
The Producers Guild Awards are often a strong signifier of which films will secure Best Picture Oscar nominations. Last year, the group matched the Oscars’ Best Picture lineup for the first time in a field of 10.
