Tractor-trailer bursts into flames in Athens, kills 1
CATSKILL, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Firefighters and State Police responded to a tractor-trailer crash on Wednesday afternoon where it crashed through and over a box beam rail in Athens. Catskill Firefighters said the vehicle tumbled about 60 feet or more down off the right side of the Thruway going north before bursting into flames with the driver inside.
The driver was pronounced dead on the scene, per State Police. The victim was identified as Sean Horsford, 54, of Far Rockaway.
Firefighters said the terrain and cold weather made this incident challenging to tackle. Leeds, West Athens, and Catskill Fire Departments all responded to the scene along with the Twin Clove rope team. Kingston, Centerville Cedar Grove, Palenville, and Tannersville Fire Departments also assisted.
