In a recent episode that aired this week, viewers witnessed a brutal stabbing which left a character fighting for their life.
Mason Radcliffe (Luca Toolan) found himself at the mercy of his own brothers, Matty (Harry Lowbridge) and Logan (Seamus McGoff), who attacked him using a zombie knife.
The Radcliffe brothers’ violence came after Lisa (Vicky Myers) uncovered photos linking Matty and Logan to the murder of her late partner, Becky.
When Mason searched his brothers’ flat for evidence he found a Second World War helmet connected to Becky’s death, which he later handed over to the police.
However, this effort to bring his brothers to justice sparked a vicious showdown.
During an altercation at the children’s play area, Mason was stabbed.
Coronation Street bosses collaborated with The Ben Kinsella Trust, a charity dedicated to preventing knife crime, to ensure the storyline was portrayed responsibly.
Producer Kate Brooks emphasized the importance of shedding light on the issue, saying: “It’s vitally important to really show the impact knife crime has on not only the victim and their loved ones, but also the wider community.
“With the alarming statistics, we want to do anything we can as a show to combat this violent endemic.”
Patrick Green, CEO of The Ben Kinsella Trust, applauded the show for its dedication to accurately portraying the devastating consequences of knife crime.
He hopes the storyline will spark crucial conversations and ultimately prevent further violence.
Meanwhile, some major changes are shaking up the cast of Coronation Street.
Four beloved actors, including Colson Smith (Craig Tinker), Sue Cleaver (Eileen Grimshaw), Luca Toolan (Mason Radcliffe), and Sue Devaney (Debbie Webster), have either been written out or announced their departure from the soap.
Colson Smith, who has played Craig Tinker for 14 years, shared on Instagram that his character will leave the cobbles in 2025.
“I’ve loved every single second of my 14-year stay,” he told followers, adding that he is excited to begin the next chapter of his career.
Luca Toolan’s character, Mason Radcliffe, was tragically killed off on Monday’s episode, after trying to leave his violent past behind.
Sue Cleaver announced her departure after 25 years on the show, explaining that she felt it was time to “embrace change” as she looks for new acting projects.
Sadly Sue Devaney, who has played Debbie Webster for decades, is said to have been caught off guard by her axing.
The Sun has heard reports that Debbie will be diagnosed with dementia in a powerful storyline that will mark her departure from Weatherfield.
