Siena's Marcus Jackson to miss 3-6 weeks with MCL injury
LOUDONVILLE, NY (NEWS10) -- Siena junior guard Marcus Jackson will miss three to six weeks with an MCL injury, the school announced on Wednesday. While that normally wouldn't sound like good news, it was given the circumstances.
Jackson injured his knee in the first half of their loss to Iona on Sunday. It was a scary scene, and the Saints feared they would lose him for the season. "As strange as it is, I'm ecstatic that it's not a surgical procedure and a season-ending type thing," said head coach Gerry McNamara. "The way he felt, the pain that he was in, we anticipated the worst. I couldn't be happier for him because everyone that knows the kid knows how important this is to him."
The Amsterdam native is averaging 6.2 points per game and 4.1 rebounds per game, but his impact ranges far beyond the box score. "You lose the ultimate competitor, the guy that's your emotional heartbeat, the guy that leads practice every day along with the rest of these leaders we have," said McNamara. "As a coach, when you have players like that that lay it on the line for you every night on both sides of the basketball, those guys can't give you enough minutes because they impact the game. It's a big loss for us."
The Saints visit Quinnipiac, the defending regular season champs in the MAAC, Friday at 7:00 PM.
