FACT CHECK: Video of ‘corpse’ opening its eyes is a skit
Claim: A video captures a supernatural occurrence, showing the corpse of a woman opening its eyes.
Rating: FALSE
Why we fact-checked this: The video has gone viral on social media platforms such as X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram among Indonesian social media users.
There are several versions of the claim. On Instagram, one post is captioned “Penampakan Jin Qorin dalam jasad manusia (The appearance of Jin Qorin in a human body).” Other accounts include the caption “Apa karena dia dengar suara anaknya?” (Did she open her eyes because she heard her child’s voice?)
An account on X posted the same video with a joking caption: “Bila kau dah meninggal tapi bos suruh masuk kerja (When you are dead but your boss tells you to go to work).”
The claim has sparked curiosity and concern, suggesting a supernatural occurrence.
As of writing, posts bearing the claim have 1,650 likes on Instagram and 7,424 views on X and continue to circulate online.
The facts: The video originates from a TikTok post by user @Scarlette_macasusi, uploaded in early December 2024. It features a content creator who frequently appears in videos dressed as a woman. His content typically includes comedic and theatrical performances.
The person shown in the video is identified as Arman, a Filipino hairstylist. Arman is popularly known for entertaining his clients with dramatic skits and humorous acts. He has expressed aspirations of becoming an actor, as revealed in a November 2024 interview in the Philippine television program Kapuso Mo Jessica Soho.
The video was created solely for entertainment purposes as part of Arman’s repertoire of dramatic and comedic performances. Additional videos and posts from the same content creator confirm that this video is consistent with his usual style of producing humorous skits.
The misleading claim that the video depicts a supernatural event was added by individuals who reshared the video with altered context and narratives. There is no evidence that supports claims of any supernatural or paranormal phenomenon related to the video.
