Paint your own pottery, art studio opens in Cairo
CAIRO, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- The Art Hub, an inclusive art studio, has opened its doors at 467 Main Street. The studio features a variety of art services, classes and artwork for sale, the owner Yuliya Benoit told NEWS10.
The idea for the studio came as Benoit discovered there were no places in the area for people to take instructional classes in arts and crafts. "The Art Hub was a natural progression from my love of art," she said. "... We have tons of artists and crafts people that live locally, so linking the public with their expertise will be a very exciting journey."
The Art Hub held a grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, January 3, hosted by the Greene County Chamber of Commerce. According to the chamber, it's a great place for creatives.
"Located right on Main Street, this fabulous new space is not only a dream come true for (Yuliya) Benoit, but a fantastic addition to our community," the Chamber said in a statement. "With its prime location near coffee shops and delicious dining options, The Art Hub is the perfect spot for creativity to thrive! Whether you're looking to pick out a fun project or simply browse the beautiful retail area featuring unique items made by local artists, there’s something for everyone."
The business offers paint-your-own pottery or paint-your-own canvas, where community residents can go and make their own art, without an appointment. According to Benoit, the studio is also currently offering an introductory alcohol ink painting class, paint your pet event, basket weaving and make your own watercolor bookmark event.
"You can stop in anytime we are open to paint your own pottery or paint on canvas--No appointment needed," she said. "We offer several art and crafts choices for kids as well."
Benoit said she wants to run a summer art camp for kids during the summer and add more art classes in the future. She also hopes to add more local artists to be featured in the shop.
Currently, over 20 local artists have pieces featured in the retail section of the studio. Benoit, originally from California, said the art community in the Hudson Valley and in Cairo is thriving and wanted to highlight that.
"I decided on Cairo because this space on Main Street was perfect for what I wanted to do. It is large and I am able to have a retail section that features handmade items from local artists," she said. "Everything is handmade and designed here in New York."
The Art Hub is open Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. For more information on what the business offers or to sign up for a class, visit The Art Hub Facebook page or its website.
