GREENFIELD, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Saratoga County District Attorney's Office announced on Wednesday that a Greenfield man pleaded guilty on January 7 to numerous charges in a firearm case. Joseph Samascott, 49, was arrested back in March 2024.
As part of his plea, Samascott admitted to having two loaded assault rifles and six high-capacity magazines in his car while trying to leave his Porter Corners home in Greenfield. He was taken into custody at the scene by deputies with the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office in response to a welfare check call. He pleaded guilty on Tuesday to the following charges:
- Two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon
- Eight counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon
- Fourth-degree criminal mischief
"We are thankful for the swift response of the sheriff's office," Saratoga County District Attorney Karen Heggen stated. "Their professional actions at this scene resulted in the recovery of multiple illegal weapons."
Samascott faces three and a half to eight years in state prison, as well as a probation term following his release. His sentencing is scheduled for March 27.
