Fulton Co. Regional SPCA founding member dies
GLOVERSVILLE, N.Y. (NEWS10) — One of the founding members of the Fulton County Regional SPCA, Clara Mae Smith, has died. The animal shelter announced her passing in a Facebook post on Tuesday.
“It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Clara Mae Smith, one of Regional’s founding board members and a cherished member of our community,” the post said.
Smith was one of the three founders of the original Regional Animal Shelter in 2002. Since then, she had been an active member of the facility as it evolved into its current organization.
According to the FCRSPCA, Smith enjoyed attending the organization’s annual Woofstock, a music and arts festival that benefits the shelter. She was a staunch advocate for animals in need, and her legacy will continue guiding the shelter as it moves forward, the organization said.
“Her passion for animals and her tireless dedication to Regional were unmatched. She was our biggest cheerleader, always ready to lend a hand or share a kind word,” the SPCA’s post said. “Clara was a true champion for the cause.”
