Former Sherwood teacher receives 3-year sentence for sexually explicit texts to students
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A former Sherwood High School student teacher was sentenced to three years in prison and ordered to register as a sex offender for multiple charges related to inappropriate relationships and messages sent to children at the school.
On Tuesday, Mason Isaiah Dominguez, 25, pleaded guilty to attempted using a child in display of sexually explicit conduct and two counts of luring a minor, the Washington County District Attorney's Office said.
Dominguez was fired and escorted from the school in April 2023 after a student brought concerns to the school administrators. The student told faculty members that Dominguez was messaging her on social media, which violates school policy. Dominguez, who was a George Fox University student teacher placed at the school at the time, later admitted to messaging the student.
The day after Dominguez was fired, another student came forward saying she was in an inappropriate relationship with him. The two exchanged hundreds of messages and Dominguez sent her sexually explicit videos and photos of himself. The student said Dominguez asked her to send him graphic photos, too.
Dominquez initially denied any wrongdoing during an investigation with a school resource office with the Sherwood Police Department. However, once sexually graphic videos, photos, and text messages were recovered from his phone, Dominquez subsequently admitted to the crimes, the DA's office said.
The victim said in court that she experienced lasting trauma from the ordeal "because someone who was supposed to be my teacher, and a trusted adult in my life, crossed every line he could cross."
Following Dominguez's firing in April 2023, the criminal investigation against him culminated in a grand jury indictment and arrest in October later that same year.
