Second suspect arrested in deadly home invasion
EDMOND, Okla. (KFOR) — A second suspect is now in jail in connection to a deadly home invasion over the weekend.
Edmond police officers, the US Marshals Service, and the Oklahoma City Police Department arrested 23-year-old Robert Mayfield Jr.
He was arrested Wednesday morning for murder.
"They broke in by surprise," said Emily Ward, with Edmond Police Department. "There were two others that were inside the home. One male had been physically assaulted and one female was not physically harmed."
Witnesses told police two men were wearing hoods when they entered the home.
One of the suspects then hit a man over the head with a gun, then entered a bedroom and found another man and woman there.
A fight broke out, and one of the suspects shot the man in the chest and killed him.
"I don't believe anything was taken," said Ward.
The motive still unknown, but the victims told Edmond police on New Year's Eve, three men assaulted the woman, stole $10,000, and promised to be back.
She believes the suspects kept their promise.
A day later, police arrested 25-year-old Tauriawn Knight.
They tracked him through an ankle monitor he was ordered to wear while out bond for allegedly robbing a marijuana grow operation in Grady County.
Surveillance video from the November robbery shows Knight allegedly being one of the eight masked men stealing from the grow operation from Ninnehkah.
During the crime, employees said the suspects took thousands of dollars and stole marijuana.
Knight was also arrested earlier in August after someone fired a gun into a crowd at Bricktown and three people were shot.
Knight was taken into custody after he was seen running with a gun, but not arrested for the shooting.
"We don't believe there's any danger to the neighbors or the public," said Ward.
Police said Knight and Mayfield were also arrested together back in May.
The two were pulled over driving erratically and marijuana was also allegedly found in the vehicle.
As for the deadly home invasion, police said they are still working to identify if anyone else was involved.
