Player ratings from Tottenham’s 1-0 win over Liverpool: Carabao Cup semi-final
Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool are now at the halfway mark in their two-legged Carabao Cup semi-final battle. Let’s take a look at our player ratings from Tottenham 1-0 Liverpool.
Tottenham vs Liverpool player ratings
Antonin Kinsky – 8.5 – Really impressed on his Tottenham debut. It would have been easy to let the nerves take over as a young man against Liverpool, but Kinsky was very strong with the ball at his feet and made a couple of impressive saves along the way.
Pedro Porro – 7.5 – He may not have been able to sleep tonight. Porro had not one but two golden chances to score in the second half after a blunder from Alisson. However, beyond that he played a brilliant ball in behind to assist a Solanke goal that was ruled offside, then did it again to create the eventual goal!
Radu Dragusin – 8 – His kind of game tonight. There wasn’t much defending in behind to do but he headed the ball away all day long. Not to mention that superb clearance off the line to keep the score at 0-0!
Archie Gray – 8 – So calm and composed on the ball, you forget he’s not a centre-back… and is 18 years old. Not only defended brilliantly, but oozes quality on the ball too. He set Spurs up on more than one good attack.
Djed Spence – 8.5 – Impressive both on and off the ball again tonight. Spence was a driving force down the left for Tottenham, while also using his strength to protect the ball well. Salah had a very quiet evening and that in itself is almost enough to earn a MOTM award these days.
Yves Bissouma – 8 – After losing his partner and picking up an early yellow, I worried for Bissouma. That being said, he won the midfield battle and set Spurs off on some nice attacks. Against the players Liverpool had in their engine room, that deserves a lot of credit.
Rodrigo Bentancur – N/A – Forced off after six minutes with a worrying head injury.
Lucas Bergvall – 8 – Nicked the ball off Alisson to create what should have been a simple goal for Porro. Grew into the game in the second half and was such a willing runner for Spurs. Very lucky not to see red for a silly challenge on a yellow card but popped up with an expert finish to win the game!
Dejan Kulusevski – 6 – A quiet day for Deki. He did grow into the match and had a couple of moments of real quality, but didn’t run the creative side of the game as he normally does. Likely a case of fatigue.
Dominic Solanke – 7.5 – Got through so much hard work once again tonight. At times his work off the ball was better than his sharpness on it in the first half. In the second 45, he was different class – bringing others into play and dragging Spurs down the pitch. Took his one chance really well before VAR denied the goal. Then did so well to shrug off his man and roll an assist into Bergvall for the winner.
Heung-min Son – 6 – Very very quiet from Sonny once again this evening. Up against the young Conor Bradley and then Trent Alexander-Arnold who had a horror show last time out, I just wanted to see so much more direct attacking from Son. Looks tired and lacking confidence in that side of his game.
Substitutes:
Brennan Johnson – 6 – Came on to replace Bentancur and got through a shift. Arguably looked more impressive with some of his hard work tracking back than his actual attacking.
Timo Werner – 6.5 – It has to be said, he was a pocket rocket when he came on for Sonny. When Werner gets his head down and just runs into open space against tired legs, he can be a nightmare to defend against.
