Man with machete arrested at US Capitol
He was detained hours before President-elect Trump entered the Rotunda to pay respects to the late Jimmy Carter
US Capitol Police have detained a man who tried to get into the legislative complex with a machete and three knives in his bags.
The incident took place hours before President-elect Donald Trump arrived in the Capitol on Wednesday, to pay his respects to late 39th President Jimmy Carter and meet with a number of Republican senators, according to NBC News.
Security staff noticed the bladed weapon in the bag of a man who tried to enter the Capitol Visitor Center around 2pm local time on Wednesday, police said in a statement. After the man was detained, three knives were also found in the bag.
The suspect, whose name has not been released, faces multiple charges of carrying a dangerous weapon, police said.

Carter passed away on December 29, at age 100. His casket was brought to the capitol on Tuesday, where it is scheduled to lie in state until Thursday morning. His state funeral will be held at Washington National Cathedral.
On Monday, a joint session of Congress certified Trump’s electoral college victory in the 2024 presidential election, clearing the way for his inauguration on January 20.
