Texas Must Stop Sales of Illegal Abortion Pills
Elective abortion is completely banned in Texas, but preborn babies are still being killed.
Anti-Life organizations sell dangerous abortion pills online and mail them directly to pregnant women’s homes and dorm rooms.
At the same time, out-of-state abortions are increasing, and liberal cities are even using taxpayer money to pay for travel expenses.
These heartbreaking deaths, however, are not recorded in the official report from the Texas Department of Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC).

The most pressing issue is the continued use of abortion pills. Women are obtaining these drugs from illegal distributors who bypass essential exams and follow-up care. Approximately 19,000 abortion pills a year are entering Texas according to available data. Abortion pills kill preborn children and are extremely dangerous to women. Two Georgia women, Amber Nichole Thurman and Candi Miller are examples of how harmful these drugs are, both tragically dying after suffering complications from abortion pills.
However, we are fooling ourselves, and abandoning preborn children, if we believe abortion is no longer an issue in Texas. The truth is, abortions are still happening here, and every day, preborn Texans are being taken across state lines to be killed.
With the higher volume of abortion pills flowing into the state, it is difficult to trace their origins and destinations. To stop the flow of these deadly pills, Texas must expand the civil enforcement mechanism of the Texas Heartbeat Act. This will help fully enforce Pro-Life protections against those who aid and abet an abortion against Texas women and children. When every Texan can hold accountable those who violate Pro-Life laws, lives will be saved.
Simultaneously, Texas women are traveling to receive abortions in states where it is legal. But they aren’t doing it alone — the cities of San Antonio and Austin are dedicating taxpayer money to abortion travel. HHSC reports that around 15,000 women left the state for abortions in 2023, the first full year without Roe v. Wade. And this number may only be partial. In the upcoming legislative session, Texas Right to Life and our Pro-Life friends will promote legislation to hold these, and other cities, accountable for using Texan’s money to fund and assist in taking preborn lives.
Texas has proven that our strong laws save children! Births increased after the historic Texas Heartbeat Act of 2021 and the momentous overturning of Roe v. Wade (1973). Most recent data indicates from 2021 to 2022 over 16,000 more babies were born in Texas following the Heartbeat Act — a 2% increase in fertility rate even before Roe was overturned.
During this upcoming Regular 89th Legislative Session, partner with us to stop lethal abortion pills from flowing into Texas and to halt cities from paying for abortions in other states. We must not abandon the fight for Life while preborn children and their mothers are at stake.
