Kyrie Irving and Anta Debut the Budget Friendly Kai 1 Team Shoe for Just $100
Kyrie Irving and Anta have announced the third iteration of his performance basketball shoe along with three new endorsers from the NBA.
The Anta Kai 1 Team follows the original Anta Kai 1 and the lighter Kai 1 Speed. It comes in at just $100, which is $25 cheaper than the other two versions of the on-court sneaker. The Anta Hela, a lifestyle sneaker inspired by skateboarding under Irving’s line, also commands $100.
“This shoe is built for the next generation. We spent countless hours studying AAU and streetball players to create a shoe that meets their needs while reflecting my storytelling and style,” Irving said in a press release. “The KAI 1 Team Shoe is not just for me – it’s for the everyday player striving to create their own story.”
Like the Kai 1 Speed, the Kai 1 Team forgoes the strap used for the regular Kai 1. A lightweight, breathable mesh upper is partially reinforced by heat pressing, and a bowl-shaped TPU runs through the length of the midsole for stability and security. A nylon shank at midfoot also increases support for dynamic movements, while the outsole has been optimized for both indoor and outdoor courts.
Dallas Stokes, designer of the Kai 1 Team, said: “I grew up in Chicago, and art became my way out. Designing the KAi 1 Team shoe was about addressing the fundamental needs of players while pushing boundaries. This shoe is about legacy and innovation.”
Daniel Gafford, Irving’s Dallas Mavericks teammate, joins Chris LaVert of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Derrick Jones Jr. of the Los Angeles Clippers as new ambassadors for the Anta Kai line.
Irving said of their addition: “These guys are my brothers, players I’ve shared the journey with. Together, we aim to inspire the future of basketball and create a legacy that resonates globally.”
Early in December, Irving wore what is widely believed to be a prototype of the Anta Kai 2.
The Anta Kai 1 Team is out now through Anta’s website, as well as Dick’s Sporting Goods, in four colorways for $100.
