2025 Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations: ‘Wicked,’ ‘Shogun’ lead the way with five nominations each
Wicked and Shogun dominated the 2025 Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations on Wednesday, each landing five nominations — including unexpected acting bids for supporting actors Jonathan Bailey (Wicked) and Tadanobu Asano (Shogun). The full list of nominations can be found below.
Wicked ruled the film side, tying a SAG Awards record for film nominations. The Universal musical received recognition for its acting and stunt ensembles and individual nominations for stars Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, and Bailey.
Just behind with four nominations is the Bob Dylan film A Complete Unknown, which landed an ensemble nomination and individual citations for star Timothee Chalamet and supporting actors Edward Norton and Monica Barbaro.
Netflix’s top contender, Emilia Perez, received three nominations: ensemble, Film Actress for Karla Sofia Gascon, and Film Supporting Actress for Zoe Saldana.
Neon’s Anora also received three nominations: ensemble, Film Actress for Mikey Madison, and Film Supporting Actor for Yura Borisov.
The other ensemble nominee is Conclave, which landed Ralph Fiennes an individual nomination for Film Actor.
Notable snubs on Wednesday included Sing Sing, which missed an ensemble nomination and individual bid for supporting actor Clarence Maclin, and The Brutalist, which received just a single nomination for Adrien Brody but failed to land in the ensemble race or individual acting races for Guy Pearce and Felicity Jones. Individual actors whose Oscar chances were dimmed on Wednesday include Angelina Jolie (Maria), Nicole Kidman (Babygirl), Denzel Washington (Gladiator II), and Sebastian Stan (who had two films in contention, A Different Man and The Apprentice, and potentially split his vote).
With actors constituting the largest voting bloc in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, the SAG Awards are a key harbinger of the Oscars. In 2024, three of the four SAG acting champs won corresponding Academy Awards: Cillian Murphy (lead actor), Robert Downey Jr. (supporting actor), and Da’Vine Joy Randolph (supporting actress). Lily Gladstone (SAG) and Emma Stone (Oscar) split the lead actress prizes. SAG’s proxy for Best Picture, the ensemble award, has doubled up at the Oscars in four of the past five years (and 15 of 29 years all time), including last year with Oppenheimer.
The announcement of the 31st annual SAG Awards comes as devastating wildfires tore through the Pacific Palisades in Los Angeles and surrounding areas. Late Tuesday night, the acting guild canceled the live presentation of the SAG Award nominations, which was to be hosted by Cooper Koch and Joey King.
“We want to take a moment to acknowledge the devastating fires affecting Los Angeles and surrounding areas. Our thoughts are with everyone impacted — the residents, first responders, and all those working tirelessly to protect the community. Please consider donating to a charity of your choice to help those in need. To support impacted members of our artist community, donations can be made to the SAG-AFTRA Foundation, which operates a natural disaster relief fund,” the guild said in a statement accompanying the nominations. Donations can be made here.
On television, Shogun was followed in the nominations by The Bear with four bids — including nominations for Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edebiri, and Liza Colon-Zayas. The Penguin and The Diplomat scored three nominations, including recognition for stars Colin Farrell, Cristin Milioti, Allison Janney, and Keri Russell. Hacks received two nominations (ensemble and actress for Jean Smart), as did several other programs, including Bridgerton, Nobody Wants This, and Baby Reindeer
The 2025 SAG Awards will be held on Sunday, Feb. 23, with Kristen Bell as the host. The ceremony will stream live on Netflix.
