Queensbury woman celebrates 105th birthday
QUEENSBURY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — For Cecily Geraghty, a resident at The Landing at Queensbury, the first day of 2025 meant more than just a new year — it also marked her 105th birthday. In honor of the milestone, Geraghty shared her insights and reflections earned by over a century of experiences.
“Cecily reminds us all to celebrate life’s moments, big and small,” said Alisha Stosic, executive director of The Landing at Queensbury. “Her love of connection and her zest for staying active are inspiring to everyone in our community.”
Born on Jan. 1, 1920, in Great Britain, Geraghty grew up in a spirited household with five sisters. Her life has remained family-oriented, especially through the influence of her husband, Michael, and her daughter, Patricia.
Throughout her years, she has enjoyed going to church, listening to music and keeping up with friends. She also served for five years in the Royal Air Force during World War II, taking care of the pilots.
When asked about the secret to her longevity, Geraghty simply answered, “Keeping busy!”
Looking back through life, Geraghty chose the telephone with an answering machine as the greatest technological advancement she has witnessed. She also praised Buckingham Palace in London, England as her favorite place to have ever visited. Her favorite treat is chocolate.
“It’s a wonderful life,” Geraghty said as she reflected on what advice to give to younger generations. “So, enjoy it.”
