Where do The Traitors sleep? Location where Claudia Winkleman’s contestant’s rest — and it’s not Ardross Castle
THE Traitors is shot in the stunning Ardross Castle, which is located in the unbelievably beautiful Scottish Highlands.
But contestants do not sleep in the 19th century baronial castle — here we take a look at where they rest their heads following a hard day’s scheming.
Where do contestants on The Traitors sleep?
The contestants on The Traitors don’t spend the night in the show’s iconic filming location Ardross Castle.
Instead, they spend their nights at a hotel near Inverness Airport — the Courtyard by Marriott.
The sleeping arrangements have been confirmed by multiple sources including Alan Cumming — the host the US version of the show.
He noted that while the contestants appeared to stay over in the castle during certain scenes, they actually slept at the airport hotel for the duration of filming.
Alan told The Daily Beast: “They all stayed in the airport hotel in the Inverness airport.
“How glamorous — you come to Scotland, and you stay in the Inverness airport hotel.
“I stayed in a little house in Inverness. But I had a room in the castle where I would get made up and dressed.
“It had a huge bed in it. So I did actually sleep quite often, but not overnight.
Sleeping arrangements
Each night after filming concludes, contestants are driven away from Ardross Castle in separate vehicles to ensure they do not see one another.
This practice is part of the show’s effort to maintain secrecy and enhance the competitive nature of the game.
Host Claudia Winkleman has emphasised that all players must return to their individual lodgings immediately after filming, where they cannot interact with each other — or anyone outside the show.
Isolation is crucial for preserving the integrity of the game, as contestants strategise about who might be a traitor among them.
Location
The specific hotel where contestants stay is located just a short drive from Ardross Castle, providing convenient access for daily filming.
This setting contrasts sharply with the romanticised image many fans have of contestants’ sleeping quarters.
Fans imagine them sleeping in quaint cottages or luxurious accommodations within the castle itself, not a bland airport hotel.
This is because throughout the series viewers see contestants preparing for bed in what appears to be castle rooms.
However, these scenes are staged for dramatic effect.
