Luxembourg donates over $1.5 million to Afghanistan
The Afghanistan Reconstruction Trust Fund (ARTF) has announced a contribution of $1.56 million from Luxembourg to support humanitarian aid in Afghanistan.
In a statement shared on Tuesday, January 7 via its official platform, ARTF expressed gratitude for Luxembourg’s assistance.
According to ARTF, Luxembourg’s support will create opportunities for essential services, livelihoods, and resilience for communities facing dire challenges.
ARTF described this contribution as a beacon of hope for Afghanistan’s families and communities struggling with severe hardships.
This comes as Afghanistan faces increasing economic challenges with the onset of winter. International aid organizations and the UN have warned of a growing need for humanitarian assistance in the country.
Recently, the World Food Programme (WFP) expressed concern over Afghanistan’s economic crisis, noting that millions are in urgent need of aid.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has also projected that in 2025, approximately 22.9 million people, nearly half of Afghanistan’s population, will require life-saving humanitarian assistance.
Luxembourg, one of the smallest nations in the world, is situated in northwestern Europe, bordered by Belgium to the west and north, France to the south, and Germany to the east and northeast.
