Sports Briefs: Marin Catholic holds off San Rafael
Marin Catholic got big scoring from Oliver Meyers and Theo Pontes to hold off San Rafael and Gio Brovelli, 69-52, in a non-league meeting on Tuesday.
Meyers led the Wildcats with 15 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals, while Pontes added 12 points. Kelly Storms added 8 rebounds @ 4 assists. Dom Hammond played a stellar floor game to collect nine points, five assists and three steals, while Kelly Storms added eight rebounds and four assists. The Bulldogs’ Brovelli scored a game-high 28 points.
- A 20-point third quarter pushed Redwood to a 54-37 victory over Benicia on Tuesday in a non-league game. The Giants saw balanced scoring with Semetri Carr leading the way with 19 points, followed by Tyler White with 15, and Brennan Woodley with 11. Redwood is scheduled to play Branson on Friday and Marin Catholic on Saturday.
Girls basketball
Archie Williams High rolled to a 73-31 victory over Arroyo on Tuesday with big efforts from Reese Patton and Parker Conrad.
- San Marin scored bragging rights with Tuesday’s 40-23 victory over crosstown rival Novato in a MCAL preview. The two teams meet gain Feb. 6 in a league matchup.
- Redwood earned a 43-21 non-league victory over Miramonte on Tuesday.
Boys soccer
Henry Escobar and Brandon Perez both scored in Tuesday’s 2-1 victory over Sonoma Valley. Jaedon Higgins Jones got the assist on the shot from Perez.
