ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Happy Wednesday! Meteorologist Matt Mackie says it will be quite cold with temperatures peaking only around 20 and the wind will make it feel more like the teens or single digits.
The human remains found in Hudson in December were identified by police on Tuesday. Also, a fire in Albany destroyed an abandoned building on Tuesday. These stories, and more, are in your five things to know this Wednesday.
1. Human remains identified as missing man from Hudson
The human remains found in Hudson near Mill Street, have been identified. City of Hudson police confirmed the remains were of missing Hudson resident, 63-year-old Robert Coons.
2. Fire destroys abandoned house in Albany
Albany Fire Fighters battled a blaze at 610 3rd street. It was an abandoned Red “X” marked house, the fire leaving the neighborhood without power on a very cold day. “There’s lives in danger. Our kids, people and everything, like my grandmother, she is at 520 3rd Street and the power is off. She’s on oxygen tanks,” said Paul Whitman an Albany resident who lives on 3rd street.
3. Granville CSD holding mid-year vote on Wednesday
Granville Central School District will be holding a mid-year vote on two savings accounts on Wednesday. The board is asking Granville voters for permission to create two separate savings accounts.
4. Troopers identify woman found dead at Vanderbilt Mansion
State Police have been investigating the suspicious death of a woman found at the Vanderbilt Mansion historical site in Hyde Park since December 6. On Monday, troopers identified the woman as Helen Pardini, 69, of Poughkeepsie.
5. Schenectady Fire Chief Don Mareno retires
A bittersweet moment in Schenectady on Tuesday as the city said goodbye to the fire chief. A walk-out ceremony was held to celebrate Don Mareno’s career with the department, which spans more than three decades.
