Meghan Markle's Heartbreaking Post About Her Dog Guy Has Never-Before-Seen Moments With Prince Archie
In a heartbreaking turn of events, Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex posted to her Instagram account, sharing that their beloved family dog, Guy, has passed away. She gave a truly beautiful send-off and shared how much Guy was an impact on their family of four. In fact, there were even some never-before-seen, bittersweet moments between him and Prince Archie.
In case you missed it, on Jan 7, Meghan shared a compilation video to her Instagram account, @meghan. She shared it all with the caption stating, “In Memory of Guy. In 2015, I adopted a beagle from a dog rescue in Canada. He had been at a kill shelter in Kentucky and given a few days to live. I swooped him up….and fell in love.”
“They referred to him as ‘the little guy’ because he was so small and frail, so I named him ‘Guy’. And he was the best guy any girl could have asked for,” she added. “If you followed me on instagram back in the day, you saw a lot of him – and on The Tig too. He was with me at Suits, when I got engaged, (and then married), when I became a mom….he was with me for everything: the quiet, the chaos, the calm, the comfort.
She continued, “He endured a terrible accident shortly before I moved to the UK which had him undergoing surgeries for several months and unable to leave the clinic. Doctors said he would never walk again, but Dr Noel Fitzpatrick said he could do it. H and I would drive late at night, after hours, to see Guy as he recovered in Surrey for months on end. I will always be grateful to Noel and his team, the team at Queen West Animal Hospital in TO, our vets now, and my friends and community: Thank you for loving him so.”
“Because many of you will now see Guy in this new series, I hope you’ll come to understand why I am so devastated by his loss. I think you may fall a little bit in love too. I have cried too many tears to count – the type of tears that make you get in the shower with the absurd hope that the running water on your face will somehow make you not feel them, or pretend they’re not there. But they are. And that’s okay too,” she said, ending the post. “Thank you for so many years of unconditional love, my sweet Guy. You filled my life in ways you’ll never know ❤️???? As ever, Meghan.”
We know, we’re sobbing too, especially after reading this beautiful, heartfelt speech, and seeing the accompanying video. This video truly shows that Guy was there for Meghan through everything, including becoming a mom.
We see photos and videos of Meghan and Guy when he was just a puppy, followed by a pic of Guy loving on Prince Harry, chilling with his dog brother, and cuddling. Then, we see how close her kids were with Guy! There’s a clip of Archie saying Guy’s name in a sing-songy way, along with him walking the beloved family pet on their farm. There’s also a sweet, super-rare pic of Princess Lilibet playing with their two dogs.
Then, we get a video of Meghan in the backseat with Archie and Guy. Archie so caringly tells his mom that Guy is going to fall, to which Meghan, in mama bear mode, responds, “Don’t you worry, mama’s got him.” We see so many more sweet moments before ending with a sound bite from Meghan and Archie singing “We love you, Guy, oh yes we do.”
Our hearts are with the family as they navigate losing a member of their household. It’s never easy to lose a pet, to lose a best friend. And it’s clear that the Sussex family loved him to bits.
For those who don’t know, Harry and Meghan started dating in 2016, and by April 2018, they were married in a beautiful royal ceremony. They share two children together named Archie, born in May 2019, and Lilibet Diana, born in June 2021.
The family has two more dogs: a rescue beagle named Mamma Mia, and a rescue lab named Pula.
