Buffalo man charged for multiple property damage incidents in Kaisertown
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) -- A Buffalo man has been charged for his alleged involvement in multiple incidents involving property damage in Kaisertown and South Buffalo neighborhoods over the past two months, the Erie County District Attorney's Office announced.
Kaisertown residents and local business owners have recently voiced concern over the property damage and called on local officials to address various problems in the neighborhood.
Officials said 40-year-old Leroy Scott of Buffalo threw an object through the front window of a residence on the first block of Aldrich Place just before noon on Nov. 8, causing $3,000 in damage. On Dec. 28, Scott was arraigned on one count of second-degree criminal mischief. Bail was set at $1 and he is scheduled to return for proceedings on Jan. 17.
Just before 6 p.m. on Nov. 26, Scott also allegedly threw a bottle though a front window on the 200 block of Weimar Street. He caused $280 in damage, officials said, and was charged with third-degree criminal mischief. Scott was given an appearance ticket and allegedly failed to appear for arraignment on Dec. 23, causing another arrest warrant to be issued.
He was arraigned on Dec. 26 and released on his own recognizance, since the charge is a non-qualifying offense for bail, officials said. He is scheduled to return for more proceedings on Jan. 17. A temporary order of protection was issued on behalf of the victim.
According to officials, Scott intentionally threw a rock through a window of a building at 3:10 a.m. on Dec. 18 on the 1900 block of Clinton Street and caused $1,295 in damage. He was charged with third-degree criminal mischief. On the same day around 4:12 a.m., Scott allegedly threw rocks at another business' window on Abbott Road, causing $1,502 in damage.
Scott was arraigned on Dec. 28 for the Clinton Street incident. Officials said prosecutors asked for his bail to be set at $80,000 for allegedly committing a felony involving harm to a person or property while he was released on an appearance ticket for a pending felony charge. The judge set bail at $30,000. A temporary protection order was issued on behalf of the victim.
Around 11:21 p.m. on Dec. 25, Scott broke another window at a store on Clinton Street and caused $1,500 in damages, officials said. He was then arrested by police.
Scott was arraigned on Dec. 26 on one count of second-degree criminal mischief. He is scheduled to return on Jan. 17 for more proceedings. He was again released on his own recognizance. A temporary order of protection was also issued on behalf of a victim.
A felony hearing was conducted on Jan. 2 regarding the Abbott Road incident, officials said, and Scott was held for action of the Grand Jury. The bail amount was not changed and Scott remains held on bail.
The case is pending action of the Grand Jury.
