Tottenham have been offered former Man City centre-back – Insider reveals
Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly identified one former Manchester City man as their main backup option for the centre-back role if they fail to get their top target through the door.
Which centre-back will Tottenham sign this month?
While it looks certain that Spurs will reinforce the centre-back position this month, it is not clear as of now who Tottenham’s top target is, with a whole host of defenders being linked with a move to N17.
It was reported last week that one of the defenders on the top of Spurs’ wishlist was Borussia Monchengladbach’s Ko Itakura, who Ange Postecoglou came up against during his time with the J-League side Yokohama Marinos.
It was explained that the Lilywhites had already spoken to intermediaries over a deal for the 27-year-old, who has 18 months left on his contract at Gladbach.
Paul O Keefe provides Ko Itakura
Tottenham insider Paul O Keefe, who is usually one of the first to break news regarding developments at Hotspur Way, has now provided an interesting update on Itakura.
He confirmed that the defender, who spent three years at Manchester City (2019-2022), has indeed been offered to Spurs.
However, O Keefe added that Postecoglou‘s men see the experienced defender as a backup option, thus suggesting that they have identified someone else as their top centre-back target.
Which centre-back’s name tops Postecoglou’s wishlist?
The new Tottenham recruitment department, headed by technical director Johan Lange, tends to operate in secrecy, with not too many leaks to the media.
That makes it extremely difficult to know who the club’s top targets are for each position.
As we saw with the Antonin Kinsky deal this week and the Wilson Odobert one back in the summer, the media might not catch wind of Tottenham’s negotiations until a deal is almost finalised.
