Prince William & Kate Middleton's Dating History Gets a New Timeline, per College Pal
Prince William and Kate Middleton’s love story has been told over and over again, but there might be a new chapter to their book — thanks to a former college pal. Royal fans know about the fashion show at St. Andrews University where Kate’s sheer outfit attracted William’s attention in March 2002, but it seems that their fairytale began even earlier.
Laura Warshauer shared her version of the Prince and Princess of Wales’ dating timeline with the Daily Mail after revealing that she was dorm-mates with William and Kate. “We went to a party at a castle. It was a Harry Potter theme, and they did an auction for charity where people were bidding to win a date. Will bid £200 ($250) to win a date with Kate,” she claimed. While she doesn’t have details on their first date, Warshauer recalled the moment she knew “they had a connection.”
“It was early on when Will and Kate were getting to know each other. This girl was talking to Will, and he was being polite, but it was obvious he needed a way out,” Warshauer shared. “All of a sudden Kate walks up from across the room, puts her arms around him, and enables him to turn to this other girl and be like ‘I’m sorry, I have a girlfriend.'” William was reportedly grateful for Kate’s swift thinking in that awkward moment.
Warshauer’s story forces royal fans to rewrite Kate and William’s love story, and it certainly sheds light on the fact that they shared a spark very early on in their time at school. The storied fashion show moment where the Prince of Wales reportedly exclaimed to his pal, Fergus Boyd, “Wow, Fergus, Kate’s hot” probably won’t change in the history books because it’s a cute tale. Still, the fashion show might have been the night Kate was officially elevated to royal girlfriend status.
“It was clear to us that William was smitten with Kate,” a source told Vanity Fair in 2010. “He actually told her she was a knockout that night, which caused her to blush. There was definitely chemistry between them, and Kate had really made an impression on William.” Their love was always meant to be even though they spent a few challenging years in the on-again, off-again stage of their relationship before getting engaged in 2010.
Warshauer was lucky enough to get a “front-row seat to the very beginning of what would become one of the greatest and most iconic love stories of our time.” And she might have changed royal history with Kate and William’s love timeline.
