Bexley library taking writer-in-residence applications
BEXLEY, Ohio (WCMH) – Surrounded by the works of the world’s most famous authors, in a quiet, cozy, nearly 100-year-old space is not just an author’s daydream – it’s set to be a reality for one lucky central Ohio writer.
“Bexley Public Library is excited to introduce our inaugural Writer-in-Residence Program, designed to cultivate and amplify central Ohio's vibrant literary community!” the library said via social media.
Thanks to a grant from the State Library of Ohio, the Bexley Public Library is inviting aspiring and accomplished writers to join the team. The program will span from March 1 to Aug. 31, and one author will receive a $5,000 stipend, writing and work space accommodations at the library and promotions of their work and programming.
The Writer-in-Residence will have a number of tasks they must complete during their six-month residency, largely serving as an ambassador between local writers and the library. Among them, the writer will have to conduct at least six adult service programs, including four writing workshops. The writer will also have to coordinate a youth program, record at least one library podcast, write at least one blog post for the library and complete a final review of the program to provide feedback.
The application asks writers to list experience teaching writing or conducting workshops, a personal statement on what they hope to bring to the program and opportunities to upload writing samples and a list of publications.
Applicants must be at least 18, local to central Ohio and engaging to other aspiring writers. The library said anyone is welcome to apply, but preference will be given to writers who have traditionally published works across genres and forms. Applications are due Jan. 15, and the library’s selection committee may ask for a brief interview before selections are finalized.
